The field trip will be done in Valle d’Aosta (Val Veny, M. Bianco), and will represent an excursus of the history of CGI.

FIELD TRIP PROGRAMME

Day 1: Saturday 20th September 2014
  • 15:00 – Minibus departure from the Rectorate of the Università degli Studi di Torino, Via Giuseppe Verdi 8, Turin
  • 17:00 – Arrival in Courmayeur, Val Veny
  • Stop 1 – BRENVA GLACIER (∼ 1600 m): the glacier retreat, the lateral moraine, the Brenva rock avalanches
  • 18:30 – Arrival at Rifugio Monte Bianco (CAI-UGET)
  • 19:30 – Aperitif and dinner
Day 2: Sunday 21th September 2014 (Walking ascent of the day: 500 m)
  • 7:00 – Breakfast
  • 7:30 – Access by minibus to Pre de Pascal (1960 m a.s.l.) then change to 4WD vehicles up to
    Maison Vieille (1952 m)
  • 8:00 – Walking along the “Sentiero Balcone” path along the opposite valley side of Mont Blanc massif
  • Stop 2 – ON THE PATH AFTER LAKE CHECRUIT (2260 m): landforms and slope instability of the Mont Blanc Massif
  • Stop 3 – COL DE CHARMONTS (2442 m) – Miage Valley and Morainic Amphitheatre
  • 11:00 – Walking down to the Combal Plain (1972 m)
  • 12:00 – Ascent to Miage Lake (2015 m) and lunch
  • Stop 4 – 13:00 MIAGE LAKE (2015 m)
  • Ascent to the moraine crest (2105 m). Altitude gap: 133 m, estimated time: 30 min
  • Stop 5 – 14:00 MIAGE MORAINE AMPHITHEATER (2010 m)
  • 15:00 – Descent along the road bordering Miage right lateral moraine
  • Stop 6 – 15:30 ASCENT TO LAGO VERDE
  • 17:00 – Return to Turin (extimated time arrival 19:00)
